Darth Vadar Cookies

2 weeks ago, I decided to throw a surprise birthday party for my HB, the theme is obvously Star Wars. The decor and settings is really not that difficult, I will do a separate post for that.

I wanted to do Star Wars cookies, and my colleague managed to find one on ebay and she ships from Singapore, which means I will get my cookie cutter in a few days. I havent done any baking since my home econ school days and the last time I tried baking cookies was for a guy whom I was rather interested in (but that was really yons ago). Anyway, I went out to buy ready cookie mix, a baking tray and a rolling pin. I burnt my 1st batch of cookies and the 2nd batch turned our under-cooked. Just when I was about to give up on the cookies, I baked a good batch last night.

I thought my Darth Vadar cookies looked pretty awesome, considering 'I'm a virgin baker'. The white specks on Vadar's face is actually flour, I put extra flour onto the mould so that it doesnt stick onto it, and I think I went abit over zealous, causing those white specks.

Cookie Recipe
1. Using Betty Crocker's Sugar Mix, pour contents into bowl.
2. Add one egg and One table spoon of flour (these are the instructions on the packet), but pls add more flour so that the dough is not that sticky. I added 2 scoops of Hershey's Cocoa to turn it chocolatey, but you dun have to follow.
3. Refrigerate the dough for half an hour so that the dough stiffens and easier for Darth Vadar to come out of the cookie mould.
4. Preheat the oven to 350C.
4. Roll out dough, but not too thick about 1/4 inch, and punch out the cookie. Line the cookie on the greased tray, must remember to leave a few inches of space between the cookies. The cookies will expand once its baking inside the oven.
5. Bake for about 5 mins or so, and leave it to cool down.

Today, I found food colouring for my cookies, I have been to Cold Storage and NTUC and none of these places sell black colouring. I spent some time goggling last night and found this amazing place in Haig Road, blk 10 Baking King. They stork a huge range of baking needs, and I was super high when I found black for Darth Vadar and moss green for Yoda. I'm going to have 2 types of cookies, and I even bought apple flavouring for my Yoda cookies. The next time I baked will be for the goodie bags for the party. Wish me luck.

Spin a web on present

Noah is into Spiderman, and I wanted to do a something creative for his birthday pressie. We bought him spiderman gloves which can spin out web, spiderman pjs and a special light gadget for his tshirt. I used red wrapping paper to follow spidey's colours and attempted to use brown strings to spin a web. After an hour, my web look like a mess. In the end, my dear HB to the rescue, and guess what he did a beautiful job!

Meya wanted me to take this shot

Meya's Fairy Woodlands Birthday Party

This post is 2 months late, and I keep telling myself I must do it this weekend, but every weekend I seem to be doing something else instead. I'm such a procrastinator.

Giant Tree
I drew and cut out a giant tree to paste outside thehouse next to the main door, so that everyone can take photos. We picked up leaves from the park, dried them and sun them till they are brown and crispy. I reused the pom pom from the pink princess party and turned them into flowers. The owls are printed and mount on hard art card. I printed out the birthday banner and hang them on brown strings with little brown pegs.

Centre piece for Dining Table
I had a brain block for the table, I didnt know how to set up the decor. One late night I took out christmas holly out of desparation, and put it in on the table and started building around it. So glad, the black pebbles and the little elves look good together :)

Decorate the gift wrapper without using ribbons

Baby Jonah is celebrating his 2nd birthday this Saturday, and I just want to quickly wrapped his present and get it off my checklist. Meya insist we do abit of art and craft on the box, I wanted to just laze around and wait for dinner time. But we ended up doing a mini project, It took us slightly an hour. I did not have any inspiration and we tried to find stuff around the house we can use. The felt flowers was cut long ago, was just lying around in my felt box.

Well, it not too bad for something that's not planned :)

King & King's Wong Haul

I received a call from King & King's Wong that I have a $106 voucher I can redeem since its my birthday month, no minimum purchase just need to make sure I take stuff more than the voucher value.

I went down with Eva and Meya and I came back with a cake stand, large serving plate and 4 sets of incense diffuser. I only need to top up $29, of course I'm happy :)

This is not a sponsored post, purely my own opinion.

Flower Brooch for Daylin

I made this brooch some months back when I was on sabbatical leave, I originally wanted to turn into a hairband. That day, when Dawn and kids came over for a play date as well as to pick up Meya's hand-me-downs. I have no one else to pass to and I dont think my plan for having a second kid will ever happen. Oh well, its better to pass to a good friend then to sell the old clothes online. Dawn said the dresses are coming in handy as she needed to attend a wedding in Sept. So, I decided to make the flower into a brooch for Daylin to pin on her dress.
